Students train for Duke of Edinburgh
Wild horses, rain storms, sunshine, waterlogged paths… year 10 took on a range of conditions to complete their first overnight training expedition in the stunning New Forest.
A monster 5-hour walk saw tears and laughter, and the odd statements of despair!
Everyone battled through and were rewarded with a delicious dinner cooked on stoves by the tents.
The team have many skills to work on and with continued training will be ready to take on the assessed expedition this summer. Keep at it team!
Students participated in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, which is an excellent opportunity to volunteer, and gain new skills in mapreading, expedition planning, and resourcefulness.
The award scheme is one of many activities available at Phoenix Academy to enrich students' learning, and provide them with new opportunities to support them in the future.
